C10 swing arm rear end
Is there a way to modify the rear end of my truck it has swing arms to the rear gear box. Or would I be better off to buy a frame that is set up for a standard rear end. There is a lot of roll on turns and reacts weird while breaking. It makes for a super smooth ride that I like but it feels like I'm loosing some drive ability due to how much the back end of my truck moves. I could just be imagining things because this is my first vehicle that has swing arms like this on it.

Replace the bushings.

Also, check tires. If it has passenger car tires, the sidewall flex will be felt in the turns
Wierd braking could be steering box, tie rod ends, Pittman arm, , or the brakes themselves, especially four wheel drum.Last edited by firebird77clone; 01-20-2013 at 05:42 PM.

Lots of times when something seems goofy in steering or brakes, its really the other end of the car/truck thats causing it

It has a brand new manual steering box in it. I think the wheels are bridgstone dueler a/t revo 2 265 70 16. I could be mistaken on the size over all pretty sturdy wheels on any other truck I've had them on. It could possibly be the brakes since they are drums all the way around.
A lot of times it feels like the rear passenger side is trying to swing to the front even if I steer into it as I'm braking.

Don't assume the gear box is good. I've put two in my 73 charger, and I need a third.
Unlock the steering column, and grab the steering shaft above the gear box. Rock the shaft back and forth, feel for play, watch for the shaft to move in and out.
Slop back and forth, or movement in and out, and it's bad.
If you do get slop (back and forth) make certain it's not in the linkage..

Thank you for the pointer! I'll be sure to look into it more this spring. The original gear box was adjusted to the max and I could turn the wheel in 15-20 degrees in either direction before the truck responded. The new gear box seems to make the truck drive its self.
