    Vega Pitman arm

This sounds like a silly question, but I just can't remember. Is the splined end of a Vega Pitman arm tapered, or is it just the output shaft that has a slight taper? (Mine has a 1" upward offset. The reason I'm asking is that I may need to flip it over. It's a long story but (he who shall not be named) set up the front suspension so that the drag link attachment point on the Pitman arm is too low. That causes two problems: 1) it causes the drag link to rub on the lower bar of the hairpin, and 2) it makes it out of parallel with the panhard bar. If I can flip it over, I gain 1.25" at the steering box end of the drag link. That corrects both of my problems.

Oops. If I can flip it over AND insert the tie rod end on top instead of up from the bottom of the Pitman arm. (I forgot to add that I would just pull it and see if it works, but it's 100 F in my garage right now.)

lots of aftermarket steering arms are double tapered so you can put the tie rod end in either side---

also , how much castor do you have???looks leaned back quite a bit---less castor will help on the clearance of that lower link

Jerry, the tie rod end is double tapered. I was asking about the splined end. In retrospect, my question was a bit long winded.

The arm I got for Robins car is reversable with double taper for the tie rod and could be put on either way on the splines

Thanks! I'll give it a shot tomorrow. It came from Pete & Jakes, so I suspect it's two-way on both ends. I may give Jason Slover a call at P&J to make sure.

    Jack,
You already got to my suggestion of giving Jason a call. I was over there a few weeks ago getting problems with a coil over and a clutch master cylinder addressed, and the guys there know the parts they sell.
