Mustang 2 power rack and pinion
Hi Everyone - I have a 46' Ford with an aftermarket front crossmember welded in with brackets and welded in (hidden) nuts to bolt in a Early Mustang power rack and pinion steering unit - I had the rack and pinion rebuilt and they sent it back with rubber insulators that extend 1/2 inch out of the mounting brackets on the crossmember side of the r/p mounting brackets. Is this normal? Should there be any washers or ? between the r/p and the crossmember? or should I just force the excess rubber to mushroom against the crossmember? or cut them? And should there be washers used on the bolt head side? whew!!!!
sorry it sounds so confusing - thanks for any help!

The one on mine was just tightened down to the crossmember. Nothing but the rack and the crossmember.

These racks were originally mounted with the extended rubber portion of the bushing on the side away from the crossmember (the bushing turned around from what you describe). The bolt that holds the rack came through the back of the crossmember, and a concaved washer and nut were used on the rack side.
Merry Christmas ya'll
