59 chevy subframe
this is my first hot rod project, and i'm only 20 and in college, so i don't have a lot of money to spend. i have a 400 big block pontiac and a turbo 350 trans. that i am dropping in my 59 chevy, and i was wondering if anybody out there has ever used the front suspension from a 77 chevy pickup. i traded a 77 blazer console for a front and rear suspension, plus a steering column, and i would like to update my truck as cheaply as possible. thanx

The 77 front suspension looks like it's easy to install on another frame. Just bolt the front crossmember to your frame. The only problem I can think of is that the 77 is front steer meaning the steering box and tie rods are in front of the crossmember. The 59 is a rear steer unit. If you have the column and steering box from the 77 you should be able to make it fit." Im gone'

do you think that this would be easier than doing a disc brake and power steering conversion, and which do you think would be the best

If this is your first project I think adapting disc brakes and power steering to your 59 front end would be easier than changing the whole front end. Adapting the 77 front suspension would require a lot more tools to fabricate brackets and weld them to your frame." Im gone'

i have one more question now, the 59 project changed gears and is now going on an 89 chevy 4x4 frame, and i was wondering if the discs from the 77 will bolt to the spindles on my 64 chevy, and if the rearend out of the 77 will fit in my rear fenders

I have a 73 Nova front clip welded onto my 58 GMC shorty. The previous owner did it. He had a spare Nova kickin around so he wleded in the clip along with all the nova powertrain. I wish he would have done a newer setup that had discs and power steering tho. Just makes more work for me now ah well, FABRICATE TILL YOU PUKE ....I guess
Thank you Roger. .
