78 dodge van suspension
Would it be possible to use the suspension from a 78 dodge van for my 49 plymouth? What I need to know is would it set too high? or can the suspension be lowered easily. Or will it set like a normal car when off the van frame? I got the van in the lot of cars, its got my 318 I have been looking for with an auto tranny, so I figured I would use all I can out of it. Steering, suspension, seats and floor pan. Just worried the suspension will be too high.
Also how do you cut a rear end? I think this one will be too long so I want to cut it down. or have someone cut it down.Last edited by joker51; 09-29-2004 at 07:44 PM.

Tim, check around for a race shop in the area that has a fixture for narrowing rear ends. If you can't find one around town someplace let me know, and I'll check with a friend of mine in Aberdeen and see where he get his done.
If the van is a half ton, the springs might be okay, depend on how and where you mount them. If it's a leaf spring with the housing on the bottom, you can reposition the rear end on top of the springs just by cutting off the mounts and welding them on the bottom side of the housing. If the housing is allready above the springs, just get some spacer blocks. Hope this helps ya.
Thanks for the list, might want you to email pics of some of the cars, would that be possible?? Will let you know which ones if you could do that for me. ThanksYesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks Dave, as I said thats a partial list, I will try to get a full list soon before the snow falls, Just email me which ones you might be interested in and I will get pictures of them as the cars are 20 miles out of town and my digital only holds about 15-20 pictures at a time.1949 Plymouth Club Coupe Still in pieces.
