Looks like the bearing flange side out .............. but yer' right it's hard to see for sure. I think that's right because you can see the fork & the "spring clips" that hold the bearing to the fork .............. @ least I think that's what I'm lookin' @."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

The part that spins is on the engine side of the picture, where you can't see. I do have the bearing pushed as far in the fork as it will go, as I inspect it more I guess that is the only thing that's wrong. I thought that bearing had to be backed all the way in the fork.
I guess I'm just gettin paranoid.
Thanks for all the input everyone.

The bearing pivots on the ends of the fork. If you push it all the way in, it won't pivot and stay flat on the clutch fingers - which is what you noticed early on.
By the way . . . you may not be paranoid . . . they may REALLY be out to get you. . .Jack

How stiff is the diaphram supposed to be on a pressure plate? I just put mine on the floor and placed the throw out bearing on top and stood on it and it didn't even flex.

Yeah, I agree and to be expected sometimes, but the story behind this engine lead me to believe it was good and I bought it from someone that I have known for years. The 4L80 transmission it was...
