    Cool 400 turbo screw up

OK guys I screwed up. I am for the most part a good mechanic. I reasently put a shift kit in my elcamino. ( on the ground / in the cold ) some how i goofed . It works perfect but if you rev the motor hard it pukes tranny fluid out the dip stick tube. Can any one tell me where I goofed or where to look first? Any info will be greatly app. T Y Tim

Hey Big daddy,,,I had the same thing happen to me many years ago,,,trying to remember what it was.
Now that you have installed a shift kit,,,you have increased the fluid pressure in the valve body,( and your pan is pressurizing ),,off hand i'd say you have missed a check valve ball,,,or if your using a fluid re-director plate,,then the plate is not located properly.
Another thought comes to mind,,,,,,with the shift kit making higher pressure,,,you may have a worn seal, or a damaged seal or "o" ring allowing pump pressure to enter your tranny pan.

your breather pipe is eather stoped up, you trans fluid is boiling over, or the filter is restricked some how. the case has a breathes on top, should be open, make sure you cooler lines are not to close to the pipes and then pull the pan back down and be sure the filter in in the hole and not stopped up. its one of the three. check the filter close. if you had a pressure that bad in the pan the trans wouldnt work.

ps sounds like the filter is sitting on the bottom of the pan.

    still going nuts

Thing is it will do it when you fire it cold. As soon as it starts you can rev the engine hard a couple times then pure nonbubbly fluid will puke out the dip stick tube on the intake. (this is my toy turned head ache) The 400 turbo is behinde a 500 caddy in my 81 elcamino. I love the thing but its gettin under my skin. P.S. Thanks for the info guys.

be sure to check that filter and make sure its not hitting the bottom of the pan, if it is thats where the fluid will go, because it cant get back into the valvebody.

hey Danny don't get mad with me jumping ahead of you here, but I got a OP on the 400 I need to get on the table. you don't wont it to be the pressure valve anyway big daddy, because that's in the front pump, what's happening in the Trans is,the pump is pumping the fluid through the conv. and the rad. cooling lines, but when it gets back to the pan from the rad. the pump cant (for some reason) suck the fluid out of the pan back into the valve body and clutch packs. the only reason that I can think of would be the filter is stopped up, setting on the bottom of the pan or a piece of gasket or something have gotten in the valve body filter pick up tube. check the filter and be sure its open all the way into the valve body, or maybe the valve body gasket is covering the hole. I believe that's where you problem is. ive screwed up about everything you can screw up putting kits in trans. but i belive you got one on me here big daddy.

Yea im not real proud of this one but I got a claim to fame. What still gets me is the fact it works great you can drive all you want till you get lead footed . Thenwhen you get heavy footed you see smoke (first sign of trouble) (smoke caused by tranny fluid pukin on hot motor) then its fine till you do it a few times then its low on fluid and acts a little funny. One or two quarts of fluid later its perfect again. See this things nuts.

whats happen is 80% of the fluid is getting back into the pump(thats all you need normal driving) but there is a 20% restriction at the filter. when you lead foot it or need all of the pressure it cant get into the filter(because of a restriction somewhere) so it pumps it out of the pick up. trust me on this one.
