    help with tranny

i have a 73 porsche 914 with a 283 conversion. i am currently using the stock tranny it sucks. it can only hold like 300hp and 300lbs of torque that is not enough for me and even if ur motor is making considerabley lower hp u have to baby the trans axel well i dont want to drive the car like i have to i want to drive it like i want to. there are other transaxels out there like the 911 turbo but it is not sideshift and the tranny and the parts to make it fit cost upwards of around $10000 no joke. i have to have a trans axel nothing else will fit in fact the stock one barley fits. is there any custom tranny shop that could build a transaxel strong enough to handle a decent amount of horse power (400-500) that would fit inside my car i dont mind spending a fair amount of money but not $10,000 any help or info or if there is someone out there willing to take on a project like this let me know it would be helping me out alot i love this car and this is really the only draw back if i can figure out a solution to this then i could have an extremely bad a** car
    thanks

If I remember right your trans is the same as the one VW used (you did know that in Germany your car was marketed as a VW didn't you?) in the vans and an odd model that didn't sell much in this country (411 I think?) I would suggest you look into the off road world, you know, sand rails, dune buggies, baja stuff. Probably find some ads in the off road magazines. There are a number of shops making HD VW transmissions for the racing crowd, and probably already have kits or complete assemblies that will bolt right in.
