TH 700 oil pump gasket?
Hi there,
I know I'm boring you with my stupid oil pump questions, but here's a very simple one:
Does the oil pump of a 1983 TH700 R4 Trans have a gasket between its housing halves? Or do I need to apply any sort of sealant between the housing halves? Or is it a metal-to-metal fit?
The reason I ask this is because in one exploded view I found there isn't a gasket and another view shows a sort of ring, which might be a gasket (I know there's a gasket between the oil pump and the trans shell and a sealing ring, too). And one trans I have has one and the other doesn't - they both don't work
So? What do I do? How do you guys fit your oil pumps?
Thanks a lot and I hope someday I can help others out with trnas-problems, but first I have to solve my own...Harharhar...

You will also need a band clamp to place around the OD of the pump to locate the two halves properly.

Thanks a lot, that's what I wanted to know
I guess that could have been the problem with my pump: It didn't build enough pressure and I kept getting pressure flutter. Probably because the oil went all over the place inside the pump but not enough in the right direction through the right channles
Seem to be getting there...

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
