thanks for the link Don - is there a way to bench check the 700r4 with shop air? I did the air checks during build up, but can you bench check the trans before installation?

what do you mean ties-up. it wont back up because its in 2 gears? not sure on the air check, but if the band moves under oil pressure it should move with air pressure.

sounds like you got a problem with the valve body. the only way oil gonna get to the 2-4 band is threw the valve body. did you put a shift kit in?

no shift kit - stock transtar rebuild - went thru valve body, every thing seems ok - I did find the lo/rev roller clutch in backwards - I'll post what happens - my book says problems with the 700r4 are usually in pairs - thanks for the post, it keeps me thinking

I replaced the low/rev roller clutch and reaction sun shell because of damage - dosbevos - still don't understand how 2-4 band is being applied by servo when in reverse?

I don't have one, but you need a serv. Manuel with the fluid diagram in it and then you could see why. don't know anybody at a GM dealership do you? maybe a check ball in the wrong place?
