I would go ahead and drop it in, and run the Powerglide. The drive shaft should work between a short shaft turbo 350 and a powerglide. I would only recomend using the glide if its for in town use. You will eventually miss the extra gears. One other thing I cant see a mild engine tearing up a turbo 350 unless something was not built right, or misused. If your running a glide look for the 1.76 they tend to be a little tougher. You might have to move the mount a little to make everything work though.

well the engine is a 350 has dart heads 479 erson cams , roller rocker arms, forged pistons 650 carb. so u think my power glide will hold it. even when i put pedal to the metal. only reason why i am hesitant about is that i dont want to get stuck..haha , but if u say i will be fine then i will go ahead and try it..basically guy told me this is a blue printed engine and well built .west coast cali 56 bel air hardtop

Look in your transmission supplier's catalog, they put 'Glides on some tremendous HP engines. In a lighter car, they're actually faster than a 3-speed. I agree that any T350 should handle your engine.

I would use the TH350 just for the extra gear and it should handle what your putting up against it. Until you know the true HP and Torque ratings I would say use it. The powerglide would probably handle it but I dont know the shape of the Tranny.

"Better off with the 350"? That's a judgement call. The 'Glide will work, whether or not you'll like it is up to you. Did the lack of gears bother you with the old engine?

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
