    Unhappy 700r4 Into Montecarlo Tech

Hello There.........I have a 85 Montecarlo SS im getting ready to install the blueprinted 383 (350 bored&stroked)chevy SB.... Mated to a Race ready 700r4 Trans......I have the G-Force transcrossmember.......I still require the Driveshaft .....

Q...How long is the driveshaft w/o U-joints..W/U joints
Q...Cheaper Easyer To Go Custom rebuild...or....

The Trans Came From A Reputable shop....but without much paperwork ..Casting numbers at the back of the pass side on the vertical pad on the end of the bellhouseing( Case) :C 1HL123126
Numbers off the Tailshaft Are :8642317-1

    Q...is it pre 85 or.....first # in the casting right ...2001

Is there any free teck diagrams on exploded view outside tranny as i need to figure out if i have the Correct speedo conections,

Theres a four pin femal socket driverside front that i dont really know what its for i think thats the lockup switch

theres a two wire female plug at the base tailshaft i think thats the Speedo

...if so ive got the original mechanical speedo conections that were on the th350 3-speed
Q...is there a converter or should i put mechanical speedo attachment on the trans

As you can see ill have alot of questions

That`s were the tech picture, links,PM,Whatever Any help would be apperciated

Are you saying that on the tailshaft housing, you have a two wire connector rather than a speedometer cable fitting? If you dont have the fitting for the speedo cable to screw into, you have a later transmission for a car that has an electronic speedometer. The thing with the two prong connector is the pulse generator that pulses the electrical signal when it it turning....when the transmission is turning the driveshaft. There are several (three) pulse outputs for a Chevy....depends on year and model. If you go to the Transmission Center web site link in my previous message, they sell parts for both pulse generators and mechanical speedo cables. You cannot simply remove the pulse generator and stick a mechanical sender in the hole..... the pulse generator setup uses a toothed wheel on the transmission output shaft....the pulse generator simply "counts" the teeth going by. The mechanical setup uses a gear on the output shaft. To change, you gotta disassemble the tranny cause they are pressed on.

Go to http://www.4xshaft.com/techinfo.html for info on driveshafts. One of Tom's pages shows how to measure your driveshaft length. Changing lengths is easy, take it to a shop that specializes in driveshaft repair.....

Dont understand the Painless Wiring part of your email.
