Transmission swap
Hi Folks,
I am new to your club. So if this has been asked before, please remember I'm new. And that's my excuse!
Ok, I have a 55 Lincoln Sport Coupe. The engine is the 341 Lincoln Y block. I would like to rebuild this engine and add an AOD transmission in place of the stock 3 speed transmission. If the transmission can be changed easily, then the engine will be rebuilt with a McCulloch Supercharger added for show and a little street fun.
The car is in great shape and will be a fun project.
Does anyone know if this transmission swap can be done, or has been done? If so, can you help me with this information?
Thank you,
Ken

I think you're pretty much stuck with the original tranny, nothing else will fit easily.

In a recent [any more anything in the past year is recent] Rodders Digest, there is an article regarding mating a Ford AOD to a Y block . I would think that if that is possible, there might be a chance for your swap. Joe

Yeah I saw something in a mag or website about adapting a tranny to a Y block. I think it was a website but cannot remember where! And no it wasn't a forum, it was for sale. I think when I was looking for information on my flathead project I came across it. I will look for it again (have no clue where it's at though but will try) and see what I find.www.streamlineautocare.com

I don't think the Lincoln is the same bolt pattern as the Ford Y.

Thanks for the help. I found an adapter for a 292 Y-Block to AOD. I was hoping to find a 368 adapter. The 368 is more popular than the 341. I'll keep looking. If all else fails, a 351W and AOD will power the car. Thanks again,
Ken

Well good luck! If you have to use the 351W then it wont be as cool as the original but oh well, still a nice motor either way you go.www.streamlineautocare.com

Call this guy, if he doesn't know anything about it, start searching for a different engine/trans.
