C4 vs AOD
Any thoughts on AOD reliability vs the C4 with a mild 5.0 in a lightweight street rod?
It would be nice to have the overdrive available, but not at the cost of reliability.
I was thinking of a TCI Sizzler C4 or TCI Street fighter AOD.

A well-built AOD will be every bit as reliable as a C4 with a 302 in front of it, and a lot better driver.

my only complaint on the AOD is that they're a heavier transmission... and if its a well built one, dont worry on the reliability one... the factory ones were junk thoughjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

I am putting an AOD behind a 351C 4V in my 56 ford sedan. It is costing me about 900.00 to have it built to handle around 450-500hp. (not incl. torque converter.)I opted to go this route to get the 4th gear. The lock up is being removed so I have a straight 4 forward gears. Shifters are limited tho.

i had a aod in a 93 mustang that ran 9.30s in the 1/4mile they can be built to handle 800-900hp if you want to spend the cash..

Aod
Try to get an AOD from a 88-93 they have all the upgrades, and they are non-computer so hookup is easier.Pull up this: (www.becontrols.com/tech/AODfaq.htm) also talk to Ronny at Roadrunner Converters in Phoenix,AZ the $$ he can save you can be better spent on the internals.

an AOD would be nice. there are some tricks to hooking it up to a carb'd engin, though. they are rather bulky, so putting it in a pre-war street rod might take up more floor space.
just something to think about.Andy
