    Question SBC/TH400 flex plate cover??

OK, here's one for the resident experts. I bought all new polished alum pans including the flex plate cover for my rod. The counter guy says the flexplate cover which is for a 350 will fit my 400 with some minor trimming and that the bolt pattern is the same. Does anybody here have any experience with this, what all is involved with trimming this cover to fit a 400?

OK, just in case anyone is interested......There are some hotrod shops out there and mail order houses that are offering polished aluminum flywheel covers for 350 trannys but not for the 400. Well I was told that the 350 flywheel cover would bolt right up to the 400 with some minor trimming.......not exactly true, but it will fit with some alteration to both the tranny and the cover. Widening the bolt hole slot in the lwr LH corner of the cover and drilling/tapping another hole in the upr RH mounting tab of the tranny (There's plenty of room and meat for an additional hole). I am replacing the cheap chrome for the polished aluminum and am real happy with the results.

Yeah.....there is the down side of polished aluminum, but thats where you have to decide for yourself. I also like the stoutness the cast aluminum pieces offer, nice thick solid flanges.
