Nuetral safety switch on Hurst shifter???
I don't understand how nuetral safety switches hook up. Can they be used with any type of shifter? I have a hurst reverse valve body shifter on a Turbo 400. Are the switches universal? Thanks, BillLast edited by billlsbird; 01-11-2006 at 08:30 PM.

It may be best for you to contact Hurst direct and ask give all the info about your shifter, then they can give you the correct part number and where to get it....

Mike, it doesn't matter what steering column he has. The column has nothing to do with the shifter in this case.
I've had to do this myself before and did it through a local speed shop, but it took a while. The fastest response will be through Hurst Tech Services.Last edited by techinspector1; 01-11-2006 at 09:19 PM.

Denny, This is the quote that I was replying to, and what I had in mind was to tell him all I knew about Neutral Safety Switches,(which really ant much, I lied) but then I realized I didn't know what he had, so I couldn't talk about it. Before I finished what I started, I may have told him all of this didn't pertain to his shifter, but we'll never know that, will we? I'm sure tech was just trying to make sure, the "old man" don't wonder off of the subject matter to far. ThatsMike

Ron Francis makes a universal neutral safety switch that bolts to the 400 trans pan. Any shifter will work with this switch. I'm no drag racer so I don't know if the reverse valve body changes the gear location at the trans. If it does then this may not work either. If park and neutral are in the same location then this is an easy solution.

Da Billlsbird, you dummy! Yeah, turns out I should have gone to the Hurst site BEFORE I asked this question! Turns out there is ALREADY one on my shifter! Well at least now, after some research, I know something about safety switches {at least I figured it out before I ordered a switch!}. Also learned something about the Hurst 1/4 shifter that I have. Although it is listed as fitting a 400 turbo reverse valve body it comes set up for a Power Glide. You have to remove a metal tap to turn it into a 400 reverse....

neutral switch also brakes on
Is a good recomendation is to wire in a stop lite switch so you also have to have the brake pedal depresseed at the same time to start it to be double safetimothale

I know this is already a 4-year old thread, but posting replies can make a good reference for future purposes.
It is one element that an automatic vehicle can’t do without because it doesn’t only contribute to a car’s functionality, it also enhances safety for the occupants as well as bystanders. The neutral safety switch’s main role is to keep track of the position of the gear selector lever. It prevents the engine from starting if the gear or transmission is not on neutral or park position.
