c-6 floor shifter linkage 70 cougar 460 swap

I am dropping in a 460 and a c-6 trans in my 70 cougar.I have everything for the swap except for the c-6 floor shift linkage.I also have a console in the car and don't know if I can change the factory floor shifter.I do have the linkage for the fmx trans wich will work on the shifter.should I just fabricate the trans end of the shifter rod?thanks, randy doing swap next weekend.

Don't know for sure about the Cougars, but the earlier Ford (60's Galaxies etc) with floor shifts had a special shift arm for the floor shift models that had the shift arm pointing up instead of down. If you attempt to hook it up with with the trans arm pointed down instead of up it will reverse the shift pattern (in other words park will be where low is).

Some of the mounting kits for aftermarket shifters have a special arm that bolts to the original column shift arm on the tranny that points in the proper direction. and gives you a couple of different mounting holes to obtain the proper throw.
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Been there done that Randy. The linkage will work, might have to play with the mounting point a bit to ge the travel correct, but other then that, no big deal. Good luck at the swap meet, maybe try ebay and find the genuine original FoMoCo piece that goes in there???
