bolt right up to a 265-400 SB, and 194-292I6's I think also BBC's but it's too lightweight for them, even if it will bolt up.

Thumbs up TH350 to 283 SB

You may also need to change your flywheel to adapt the torque converter you will need with the automatic. Use the following links to determine specs for your 283... Good Luck!

It depends on what the T350 came out of doesn't it? Doesn't an oldsmobile 307 and 350 have a T350 also pontiac motors 301, don't they use T350?

chevydrivin may be right.I think that some BOP's won't bolt up,I may be wrong. But if I understand what Matt167 is saying is to use a flexplate that will match? The motor came out of a vehicle with a standard trans,so I'll have to buy a flexplate anyway,so I'll get a dual bolt pattern since I don't know the specific year(pre 79) of this trans.Hope I'm not missing something here?
Edited-yeah,I was missing something. I was thinking about flexplates with a dual bolt pattern to work on th350 or powerglides that came on the 283's.
