    stuck in park

i have a 2000 ford escort that wont shift into gear. i called a few autopart stores and even the ford dealer. they told me it was the neutral safety switch. i changed the part and no response.could it be the linkage? oh and now it wont start back up. thanks for reading and hopefully helping.

It could be that the neutral safety switch isn't adjusted up right either. They have a little play in them when you install them. Me and a buddy put one in an older escort and he had to move it while I was trying to turn the key so we could find the point in which it would run then bolt it down.
If I knew anything I'd be dangerous.

sounds like you have the neutral safety sw out of adj. now, but who ever told you that sw. would keep it from going into gear is wrong. if the motor is running you don't need a nss. put the trans in neutral and move the sw. until the key will start the car. if it starts the car thats all its made to do. back-up lights may be there also. if you linkage is moving at the trans. then its the linkage inside the pan or the trans. is broke. if a axle comes out of the trans it won't pull either. that happens on fords a lot.

the ajustment for those are near the brake pedal on the back, you should be able to slide them forward and backward for ajustment.
