    C6 Transmission with overdrive

I have a mostly stock 351C..Ive decided to buy a new transmission cause the tranny i have now needs repaires, the sprag cluth is starting to go..I wanted to go with a AOD but from what a few people have told me, they are junk and will need rebuilding after a few months...I hear the C6 is a pretty strong 3speed...My rear has 4.11 gears which i would like to keep, i would love to have overdrive but if the AOD is junk i dont wanna waste the money..What is a good overdrive module which i could use with the C6? Any ideas on how much one would cost? Im not a transmission guy so i know nothing about this really.

Have you thought about going with a Tremec standard 5 or 6 speed? The Tremec TKO600 is just about bulletproof, and it will hold 600 ft. lbs. of torque, I don't know what your thoughts on a standard transmissions are. As for a overdrive unit, check with U.S. Gear or Gear Vendor, they both offer bolt on overdrive units.

The TKO600 costs less than the overdrive unit, that is unbelieveable.

I dont really want to put a manual into the truck...I drive trucks all day long which are 12speeds, it puts a smile on my face to see an automatic at the end of the day...

i dont have the C6 yet, i still need to buy the tranny...I had planned on getting the AOD but ive heard they are junk...Does anybody have any opinion on a AOD vs a C6 with an overdrive unit, besides the AOD being cheaper.

I have put over 200,000 miles on a AOD with no problems but it was behind a stock 302,as long as the cable is adjusted properly they are a decent trans. There is someone in Canada building them for high horse power usage but they are probably really expensive. Jeff

I've used a Gear Vendor's overdrive unit in a couple different cars, worked great in both of them. A bit spendy, but quality usually is.....

i was looking at the AOD built by these guys
    http://www.tciauto.com/ford/ford_aod.htm

I would much rather just have the 4spd to begin with instead of having to get an overdrive unit but i dont wanna have to go and rebuild it a few months after i buy it...So im kinda stuck between the AOD and the C6, not really sure what to get.

TCI builds some high quality transmissions. Might want to give them a call, tell them how much horsepower you are running, vehicle weight, and whatever else they will need to make a recomendation as to what would be the best unit for you. Generally the Tech guys are very helpful and will sell you what works the best, not just what they want to get rid of.
