Something is stressing those cases! Either a balance/vibration problem, or the driveshaft is too long and smacking it when the rear end twists. Seen cases crack when the bolts to the engine loosen up, too.

Yeah, what the Pope said. How much of the input shaft is sticking out of the tranny with the car sitting on it's wheels???? Not sure, but could uneven torquing or perhaps a bad alignment dowell cause the problem????

you said stock mounts on the 350 motor but did not really mention the mount for the tranny, is it also stock mount or solid mount. if you have a flex joint on the motor it has to be a flex on the tranny also. either solid and solid, or flex and flex, cant mix them!

thanks for the sugestions. the first tranny was with the 400 engine with the wrong flex plate in ten hours broke all the way across the top. the second trans is with the 350 i didn't want to bust it so I checked everything really carefully bolts dowels flexplate etc and it had all new rubber mounts it has a new crack 5" long by the tranny lines I am thinking that the engine mount stands are too tall and that is stressing case so I am going to find someone with a 350 nova and measure the distance from frame to block? Thanks

I measured a 350 nova and it was about 4 and 3/8 inch from the block to the frame with solid mounts and my 350 nova is about 4 and 3/4 inch with rubber mounts could that be the problem? or is that normal differance are the solid mounts the same height as the stock rubber ones?
