    Gennie Shifter?

Going to install a Gennie shifter tomorow. Have a 47 Ford. Should I go with the 16 in. or the 23 in. swan.? I have heard good things about the Gennie, looking forward to the install.

I started with a Lokar 23" for a sedan, but traded that body for a roadster and have had to change to a 16". My seats are now quite low. As Denney says, it depends on the height of your seat but also, with an auto, you don't really need to be shifting at every stop and just may want it low and out of the way. My guess is that the 23" would be perfect though.

I think I will go with the 23in. I still have the bench seat and it is pretty high. Will post some pics after the install today. The shifts knobs are expensive but they do look great from Gennie. Decsions, decisions!

Before you spend your hard earned bucks, I suggest that you put the Gennie and Lokar side-by-side and compare. While they are both quality, I did prefer the Lokar bracketing - IMO it seemed stronger.

    Thumbs up Gennie Shifter

I would go with the shorter stick when using an auto trans. (attached photo of my 29A)

I too just purchased a Gennie shifter........was originally going to utilize the tall 23" swan but........due to a seat change (bench to buckets) I opted for the Ultra Gennie 23" straight shifter.
Why the Gennie ???.....while I was at the Turkey RR I was able to inspect both & liked the detent system that the gennie uses.......also no button to shift from gear to gear (although....now Lokar has an adaptor...) - plus PLENTY of shift knob options.....
    I'll be watching your install.

While at the Turkey Rod Run, Dan bought a Gennie, and I bought a Lokar. He has a custom shift knob he wanted to use, so he didn't want the hassle of that new adapter. I only bought the Lokar because some vendor was selling them for $ 160.00. and also the curvature fit my layout better. I actually wanted a Gennie for the knob feature too, but the price and fit swayed my decision.

As for quality, I think both are pretty equal, and a darned sight better than that one I built.

29Arod, you have a lot of credibility with me since you have a running '29. This is a very old thread but maybe you can make a comment about the lockout wiring? This is Saturday and Gennie is closed so I am wondering if you remember what wires go to the lockout? Above you show a nice clear picture of a Gennie Shifter with the two connections for the lockout, I also have a Gennie and I am now wiring things. My circuit diagram from It's-A-Snap does not show the lockout. I saw a long discussion of the Gennie vs. the Lokar on the HAMB and they favor the Gennie about 10:1 but folks here warn about the Gennie wearing fast at the bottom of the stick. I called the Gennie guy last year and he said he will just replace the stick if/when it wears out. I ended up putting a blob of grease on the bottom of the stick, maybe that will add life to the wear point.

The length and shape you use will depend on how it will work with your seat and clearance to the dash. I have a 23" swan in my truck and a 12" Lokar in my Stude. Both seem to be of equal quality and price. Just didn't want a button in the truck. Now I find out Lokar has an adaptor to be buttonless. O well like both.

Thumbs up Gennie Shifter Safety Lock-Out switch

Don, "The Gennie Shifter comes with a double pole (normally open) safety switch which is connected into the wire (series) from the Ignition switch to the Positive side of the starter solenoid".

291rod, Thanks, your picture is great. I found the shifter switch on my circuit diagram from "It's-A-Snap. When all else fails, read the directions!

Anyone know if Genie makes a cable linked shifter? I'm having a hard time finding a cable connected floor shifter for a c6. Lokar makes them, but not for the c6. I called their tech line, and they are in the process of making one but no time set for production yet. I'm going for the manual shift, floor mounted classic look, and love those Gennie shifter knobs! My problem is I think the tranny sits too far back for anything but a cable.
