    Powerglide to 700R4 '67 Impala

Hello everyone ! I have recently purchased a used 700R4 ( '84 Monte I believe ) and plan to swap it out for the powerglide currently residing in my Impala.....for numerous reasons. This will be my first swap and would appreciate any knowledge available on this....web sites , past experiences , things to look for, etc. I am planning on having it rebuilt proffesionally and doing the rest myself. What is the going rate for a rebuild ? Will either torque coverter work ( rebuilt 327 /edlbck prfrmr intake & carb /msg billet hei / stock cam , heads , bottom end )?Planning on edlbck heads/cam and EFI within next couple years .Will that change converter and rebuild needs ?

Thanks in advance for any assistance / advice.

If by "either converter" you mean, will the 'glide converter work on the 700r4, nope. You must use the converter and ring gear for the 700. The OD trans is bulkier than the 'glide, too, and different length. The rear mount is farther back, and the driveshaft will be too long.

You will need to shorten the drive shaft . Run a t v cable for shifts , and run a wire for the lock up converter. You can get a KIt on ebay for $15 it works you don'y need to spend more. !984 700s have issues. the accumulator pistons, roller clutch and sprag were all updated by 1987 the pump is a 7 vane and the input shaft is smaller diameter.Change all this and you have the start of a good trans. The tail shaft housing on 700s sometimes come with a boss for a trans mount if you find one Your cross member can be moved back to the holes already in your frame drilled at the factory for 400 trans. It really is very easy conversion with a little research.

Would it be more cost effective to change the necessary parts during rebuild or turn it in as core for an updated model ?

I pay $25 for 700 cores I include all the up dates when I build one I don't ship If I were you I'd get a lock-up wire harness and run that trans the way it is If it fails buy another built one
