T-5 shifter location change
I have a 1990 WC T-5 # 13 52 199 from a Mustang that has a the shifter located at the end of the tail shaft . This located the shifter under where my seats will be located . It measured from bell housing a total of 26 inches to shifter center .
I started thinking that maybe a truck trans that has the shifter forward would work but the first gear would be all wrong .
I was at a swap meet to day and had some pics with me and i ran upon on a
trans from a 1989 S 10 4 cyl 5spd T-5 #13 52 193. I looked it over and and it seemed the Tail shaft was the same bolt pattern as the T-5 at home and the shifter being located forward on the tail shaft would work perfect . The guy shot me a price of $75 and so i figured hey i cant go wrong see them on ebay for twice that amount . So it went into the wifes car with a look and statment of something of grease and a cleaning .
So to shorten story got it home swapped top plates and tail shafts and i have a WC T-5 trans that will fit a Model A perfect . It moved the shifter forward over 7 inches total placing it in front of seats . I think i will turn the shifter around .
I will have to address the speedo the 90 is gear driven and the 89 is electronic and in slightly different positions . I think i figured a way of swapping them over and putting the electric one on the 90 WC .Last edited by bluestang67; 03-18-2007 at 07:43 PM.

Looking close the output shaft and gear box look identical . The only difference i see is first gear being the Chevy S 10 is smaller then the mustang .
First pic is of 1990 WC T-5 second pic is of 89 S 10 T-5Last edited by bluestang67; 03-18-2007 at 07:58 PM.

I did find out the S10 was WC from 89 till 97 . Most likely the tail shafts should be close on quite a few.Last edited by bluestang67; 03-21-2007 at 03:32 PM.

Great info and pictures.
I've heard different stories on the swap but these are the first pictures I've seen.
I have a 63 Falcon I am dropping a 68 302 into soon, but haven't decided what tranny to use, an auto or standard. I have a 60's Ford galaxie 3 speed, but wanted something with overdrive and that T-5 setup may convince me to keep the fun in it with a stick shift.Dan

Cool. glad it worked for you. I wanted a t5 real bad (for the OD), even bought a nice one. But I succumbed to all the critics that told me it wouldn't stand up behind my 454...
looks like your on your way. good luck, post more pics!!!!

Sorry. sold it on eBay.
Little hint, check out your local late model mustang clubs and message boards. First thing those guys do is rip out their t5's to swap in big $$ trannies. I picked mine up at http://www.lmmc-ct.com/forums/ for peanuts and sold it for twice that on eBay. BTW, eBay is not bad either, it only cost the buyer $90 to ship mine from CT to Fla via UPS...
CAREFUL, there are ford style T5's and Chevy style T5's. Make sure you take note of the tranny mounting bolt patterns. I accidently bought a mustang T5 thinking I could bolt it to a chevy IROC T5 bellhousing...WRONG! But, I have heard that an astrovan bellhousing will mount a ford T5 to a chevy motor, but I never looked into it. I have seen a picture of one of these bells on eBay and it looks like it might be true.
If you are looking for overdrive for a GM (like I was), look into the New Process MY6 A833 tranny, relatively cheap, unknown and durable. Thats what I ended up going with. Google it.Last edited by Gusaroo; 03-23-2007 at 01:47 PM.
