700R4 rebiuld
I'm about to atempt to rebuild my 700R4, I've been looking at different kits manufactured by TCI and B & M. Can anyone tell me which complete rebuild kit would be better? This is the first automatic transmission I'm going to rebuild, so keep that in mind lol the only other transmissions I've gotten to play with are a tottaly different monsters, all heavy duty stuff. Any info would be appreciated.Last edited by SLAMMDS15; 04-14-2007 at 07:28 PM.

most shift kits make the shift harsh and do nothing for the hold of the band or clutches They shim the accumulator pistons so they become ineffective The accumulator curcuits in a 700r4 only work below 5/8 throttle so what do these kits do at full throttle ? not much. All you need is a .500 boost valve and a super servo. you end up with a trans that shifts smooth at light throttle and chrip the tires when you get on it. The band and clutches are held firmer all the time .You can get both on ebay

Here is a good site that has any part available and lists what its funtion is and what it does compared to a stock piece and when you should use the stronger parts...!

I've allready done the servo in hopes to get the season out my tranny, it worked better for a while but now its totally mesed, its slipping in first gear and third. This is why I want to rebuild it. B & M and TCI offer high performance kits, I was just wondering if any of you have delt with either product and knew what would be the better choice. TCI is cheaper but I've heard the instructions are not as comprehensive. I have rebuilt tranny's before but nothing this small, we have no books here at the shop and for me to buy it just to do one tranny is not feesable for me. we never deal with any light duty stuff. (also, I want the coplete kit, with all the proper parts, this is what I'm talking about when I say a rebuild kit. NOT a shift kit).
Thanks

Just a hunch......did you double check clutch clearances? These need to be a bit looser than you think or the specs say. Be patient with finding the right steel and clutch plate combo. It will burn up the bands quickly and cause first and third, fourth applications to go away and give you the funkiest shift or non shift problems. Do it again and loosen them up by at least .020". Don't forget to thouroghly clean the valve body again. Light sediments will come back to haunt you from your described conditons.Last edited by nitrowarrior; 04-16-2007 at 04:48 PM.

The tranny has been slipping for a while now, long before I did the servo. I put it in last summer and it worked a little better. At the end of the drag season it was starting to slip rather much, in all gears It still shifted properly, under low load, you could feel it change gears but it just wasn't able to hold my sbc. And yes the throttle pressure valve was set properly. I'm rebuilding the engine this year and its going to be considerably more potent, I just want to rebuild the tranny before any major failures. Not to mention I will be running a muck higher stall this year also (3200-3600). My question really is, what would be the best rebuild kit for the job. That is to redo the entire transmission, and which parts should be replaced with those of increased strenght.I've got the itch to lay some rubber down!!! ~Thanks grampa! its been 10 years worth of work, I just wish you could see it~

The link I posted goes into every single piece of the transmission in detail and exsplains what materials are best for your exact engine ,not just some kit.You can get every single piece individualy, based on your combo .The site goes into more exsplainations of parts what hp and torque they fail at and why, than any manual you could purchase.
Buy what you want from wherever you want.........but this site will educate you on exactly whats available and why.Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)
