    Question Th-350 Vs Th-2004r

HI i am building a chevy 402 I am looking to get 325-350HP.
Now I am thinking on what Transmission i shud go with i have a THM-2004R and a THM-350 ill have to have either one rebuilt. i would like to run with 3.42 or 4.10 in the rear end what in your opinion would be best for my set up? it will be in a 1986 Monte Carlo and street tires. It will be 25% strip and 75% street. o and stall converter? What would be good 2,000 to 2,400? the cam is 216/216 @ .05 .544 Lift Crane Cams P/n:103062
Now what has to be beefed up on the trans? and how much dus a rebiled go for?
i don’t know much about the THM350 but I think it might be "hard core" inside I was toled it was on a blown 350 and would brake your neck. it has an ext deep pan with a plug. what and where can I get info on it to post? About it it might be an aftermarket THM350

i was just out looking at it and
it has no lock up for the converter
i found some # stamped in the side "121547357" ?
but cant fined any on the converter

If you run low gears, an overdrive transmission is a good idea - especially with $3.00+ gas. The TH350 does not have overdrive.

The 200 has a 67% overdrive. That would drop your 4.10 gears to about 2.75 in 4th. The 3.42's would be 2.29.

Also, the 200 should have lockup. If you run a higher stall converter, that would eliminate any slippage at cruise.

Downside is the 200R4 is going to be higher to rebuild and the converter is going to cost more. Since they ran 200's in GN Buicks, there is no doubt it will handle the power. IF it's built right. I can't give any info on what that will take.

I'm running a TH350 now, but when I get the chance I'm going to an overdrive trans.

3:73 is my preferrence. I do question whether or not your 2004R is beefy enough. There are great mods for this tranny. In stock form it will not handle the Big Block as it sits. What are you willing to do for upgrades?. Pump alone whithout discussing the components rearward will have to be changed....and so on and so forth. A lot of successful drag racers beat this unit up all day long and have no failure.
What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

Get the 2004R you won't be sorry, a good one should easily handled the hp levels you want. A good rebuilt 200r @$1k would be a great deal. Most rebuilt 2004R go for about 50% more.
