Trans for 500ci
Hi all, my dad is putting a 500 into his '57 caddy and is wondering about trans options. He's got a TH400 but has questions about OD trans,i.e. handling torque, which one-700r4,200r4,4L60e etc, and donors with the B.O.P. bolt pattern. facts and opinions welcome. Thanks in advance,Rich.Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas

With the 500 inch Caddy you really don't need an OD trans. They have so much bottom end torque you should run no more than 2.80-3.00 rear end gears and your RPM will be nice and low for cruising. A Turbo 400 is a good choice, maybe put an RV type torque converter in it to help with low end punch. That 500 should make that 57 Caddy Sweet! I was just remembering my Dad's 57 Coupe DeVille. It was no slouch with the original motor.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

yeah i agree just stick with the th 400 and highway gears ant it will still be stong, the od unit may not keep up with the torque .
Thank you Roger. .
