    350 trans shift out first

I just change rear-end in nova to 373 gear. The 350 automatic transmission shifts out of first gear in seconds jumps right into second. Everything is fine with second and third gear. I like it stay in first longer.

Governer will have to be lightened first and then make sure you have an adjustable modulator to fine tune. Lightening the weights on the governor will bring the shift points higher. If the problem persists or you're not happy with over all shift points, time to shift kit it. As long as the shape of your tranny is in good enough shape to with stand the change over.
What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

Did this just start, or was it always like that?

    Shifting Too Soon

The transmission was rebuilt recently. The problem started when change to 373 gear. Should of put in shift kit when it was out.

shift kit wont raise the shift points, i have the same problem when i put my car together tranny set up for 2,45s and then put 3,50s in it. i have a low rpm 2nd 3rd and even lower 1st 2nd especially for the track
you either need the correct governor for the ratio or modify the old one.
i just in fact tried another governor i got from a tranny shop in it tonight, its got real small square narrow way too high 2-3 perfect 1st-2nd at about 4800 rpm
back to the drawing board to lighten the existing weights
i am going to drill 1/8 holes on the outer edges of the inner weights and give it a shot and see what it does and go from there

well i took the original governer out tongiht and did not take it apart. I taped and covered up the unit as much as i could and then with a little spacer between the big and little weights. i took my little cut off wheel and took approx 1/8 to 3/16 off the end of the small weight straight across. did this on both sides and then cleaned up the unit real well .
    This raised full throttle 1st -2nd approx 200 + rpm to 4400 and 2nd-3rd 450 rpm to 4700-4800
i would prefer the 1-2 to be a little higher but i think it will in turn cause the 2nd 3rd rpm to go up too.
i dont want to spin my caddy any faster than that anyways so i am pretty happy with the results .
the reason why i want to play with the governor and raise the shift points to a fairly high point is that i et race the car at our track and to this point its deadly consistent by just leaving the car in drive.
i wanted to get the et down a bit by raising the shift points above the 4100-4200 rpms i was spinning before.
