    Flywheel Swap

     



    Can You Use A 400 Sm Chev Flywheel Ext Balanced
    On A 454 Bb Chev Without Any Prolems, And Using
    The 454 Balancer?

    If you are talking about the flexplate I believe they are the same. To my knowledge GM never put a flywheel on a 400sbc, they were all automatics.

    no buy the right fly wheel you could put any flywheel on the 454 if it is re balance it. but you would have more money in it .you would need to put heavy metal in the crank .to make up the lack of counter weight

    I checked into this at one time and I seem to remember that the eccentric weights were different on 454's than they were on 400's.

    yes your right the mass is not the same so the counter weigth is not the same but you could use any one like i said if you want to add heavy metal to the crank

    All I can tell you is that a stock 454 flywheel will work on a 400sbc That is what I used when I had a 400sbc in a '62 pickup.

    any thing could work but the weight is not the same. if so then there would be one only part number for the 400 and 454 there is not. could it work maybe but i would not do it
