    Cruise O Matic help needed

CALLING ALL CRUISE 0 MATIC EXPERTS
I NEED SOME INFO ON THE CRUISE O MATIC. I BOUGHT A 390 FOUR BARREL ENGINE OUT OF A 1963 FORD GALAXIE 500. tHE TRANSMISSION IS A CRUISE O MATIC i'M TOLD. ILOOK IT UP IN THE MANUALS AND THE ONLY THING I CAN FIND THAT LOOKS LIKE IT IS A FMX TRANSMISSION.
THIS TRANSMISSION HAS THE FILLER TUBE MOUNTED TO THE TRANSMISSION PAN NOT THE CASE. tHE CASE MEASURES FROM TAILSHAFT MOUNT TO THE REMOVEABLE BELL HOUSING IS 10 AND 3/16 INCHES. i READ SOME WHERE THIS THIS TRANSMISSION IS CONSIDERED AND EARLY C-6. SUPPOSEDLY THE TRANSMISSION RAN WHEN REMOVED FROM THE CAR BUT HAD BEEN SETTING FOR 5 YEARS.
THE 390 HAS BEEN BUMPED UP TO ABOUT 375 HORSE POWER. IS THE FMX WORTH REBUILDING AND WILL IT HANDLE THE EXTRA POWER IF I DO REBUILD IT?
IF NOT I AM IN NEED OF A C-6 TO MATE TO THE 390. I LIVE IN THE MEMPHIS TENN AREA IF ANYONE HAS 1 FOR SALE.

    THANK YOU

The old FMX boxes can be built to be fairly tough, but I would imagine these days a C-6 would be a much more economical buildup and they do stand up to the horsepower and torque better.... We have a couple of the FE C-6's around, but we're a long ways from Memphis!!!! Starting hitting the local yards, they sure aren't that hard to find around here....

I bought a C6 a couple of years ago to backup the 460 I am going to use for something or other. Jackson Racing built it, and they are still on Ebay all the time. Can't recommend them enough, good people with a good value. Here is one of several they are running right now on Ebay. You would have a hard time rebuilding one for this kind of money.

BTW, does the 390 have the same bellhousing pattern as a 429-460? I'm not sure.

All C-6s for FEs from 66 to 76 will fit but avoid the 67 to 72 truck trans as they are a short shaft and are not made for slip yokes for the drive shaft,I think the 73 to 76 trucks have the slip yokes and 67 to 70 galaxies will work. Since you have a 63 motor and since C-6s are newer then 65 when the starter design was changed will need the 65 and up starter and flywheel. Jeff

i told you so...no the fe block trannys are way different from the 460 block..the internals seem to swap out ok i have changed a few and they all worked out ok..but there are alot of differences so use all the parts outta the 460 housing in your fe housing
if you cant run with the big dogs
    then stay on the porch
