Rear gear ideas?
Well, not really a gear question as it is a question about a posi-trac units.
I have a "71" chevy pick-up with a sb 350 and a th350 tranny with a stock rearend with 3.73-1 gears. I would like to put a posi unit in it as one wheel grabbing ( or breaking loose) just isn't getting me down the road. Have looked at a couple of setups and not sure which would be good for me. One is a locker differential from Richmond and the other is an Eaton setup. Anybody have any thoughts on who has the better unit for the street? Won't see any track usage in the forseeable future just your everyday street driving.
Price wise there isn't enough to really make a difference, so I'm just wondering who makes a better street setup. Thanks for any and all thoughts.

I have a Eaton posi for street-strip and never had a problem. I would prefer a posi on the street over a locker.
If you were doing some serious racing, off-roading, or towing you might lean toward a locker. Otherwise the posi should be fine... what rear-end? 10-bolt?
There should be some other opinions from folks that have used lockers more...

here's my 2 cents. if you live in an state that has winter weather and you plan to use your truck year round a locker setup is definately not the way to go. driving on slick roads with a "lockup" rear can get VERY exciteing. a locker set up is spendy also. if you went to a local boneyard you should be able to trade your rear end and a couple hundred bucks for a posi rear, but then again winter driving will be white nuckle time

OOPS! Sorry, it is a stock 12-bolt truck rear-end, and it seems that the Eaton
setup would suit my needs better.
As for winter driving- been there and done that with a "67" camaro that was posi but don't know what was under it- it was a lot of fun whebn I was 20 yrs. old and didn't care if I had to push a lot to get going again. Now I would just as soon stay on the inside of truck.
I beleive that it will be an Eaton posi then, thanks for your opinions and thoughts, allways insightful and informative.
And a Happy Birthday Wish for Mr. Spears. Hope you can have a great one. :)
