detent cable.
I have a edelbrock 650 cfm carb. My detent cable bolts directly to it but sticks open. I have changed cables and still the same problem. Looks like i need some special cable or an adaptor. went to the edelbrock website but no luck. Is there some trick to this. When i got the car the cable was not hooked up so i guess that the guy who installed the first cable had the same problem. my tranny is a th350.BARB

LOKAR makes great aftermarket throttle and kickdown cables that also look real nice.

Barb,
What sticks open? The carb, or does the cable stay fully extended?
If you pull the cable by hand, does it stick or does it retract normally.
You need to fix this, since the detent cable signals the trans that you are at wide-open throttle.
Maybe this thread will help. It's about the same problem.

when i step on the throttle with the cable attached to the carb the carb sticks wide open. when i disconnect the cable the cable moves fine. the steel plate on the cable seems to be to small for the hole on the carb throttle body. if i get a smaller bolt then everything just slides back and forth. i looked at the lokar site and their cables do not look like mine. the end of my cable to the tranny looks like a S and the part to the carb looks like a long rectangle with a bolt that goes thru to the carb.BARB

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
