S Link Bent?
I repaired my detent on my th350. When i put it back together and checked it i can not shift in drive. Took it back apart and checked the torque on the arm that has the roller for what looks like a rooster comb. That is fine. Still no drive. Could my s link have gotten stretched and if so can i squeeze it back with a pair of pliers.BARB

well you could but you should of not had to play with that part of the valve body your taking about the S link that hooks the spool valve to the shift selector shaft ?Irish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

it is a S that hooks to a rod that slides in and out of the the lower assembly on the tranny. When i droped the lower assembly to get to the detent i believe that the S might have gotten pulled. That is the only reason i can think of that I can not shift into drive. I have reverse and neutral but the gear shift will not go beyond neutral.BARB

un hook the shifting rod off the trans see if you can shift it at the trans the kick down will not stop it from going in to p or n your shifter needs to be adjusted what do you have in it for a shifterIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

I know that it is not at the detent. I am talking about the S-link beside the shift idicator on the opposite side of the tranny. The one where the piece of steel that looks like a paddle with a roller on it. The s-link sits right beside it. Looks like it is not going all the way back when i shift the gear shift. The paddle moves fine.BARB

I had the valve body off. Had to do it to get the detent rod to connect to the new detent. When i lowered it I forgot about the s link so i grabbed it quickly and removed it. I could not visualy tell if it bent open any.BARB

did any of the balls fall out ? you should still un hook the shifter rod from the trans and work it thru the gears by hand use a adjustable wrench were the stifter shaft comes out of the trans were flats on the shaft that is were you grab it with the wrench. i think you have it flip you need to get it back off and put it in park then put the S hook it back on the valve bodyLast edited by pat mccarthy; 03-11-2008 at 05:56 PM.
