1990 isuzu trooper
I am helping my friend replace the clutch on his trooper. We can not get to the 2 top bolts to drop the tranny. It is a manual tranny. any idea of how to get to them.BARB

Is there an inside tunnel cover that can be removed?

Do you have a motor manual for that particular car? Sometimes in the engine section under removal they will give suggestions for tight spots like those bolts. You should pickup one of the $ 15 Chilton ones at the store because they pay for themselves usually, especially on a big job like this one.

Sometimes you need to pull the X member and lower the back of the engine a little to reach themBuying parts I don't need, with money I don't have, to impress people I don't like

I place a small hydraulic bottle jack just under front of engine on some with tough bolts . When i jack it up the rear of engine will lower a bit . Place a piece of wood on the jack so you wont be anything and only jack it slightly as not to damage motor mounts . This is after crossmember is out and have some one suppot trans with another floor jack or even small bottle jack

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
