700r4 cooler question for a 32
Building a 32 roadster that has a 700r4 in it, what type of trans cooler should I run? I have seen the aluminum heatsink style or the traditional flat style, I plan on running it under the car, any recomendations? What is the best option here? Thanks in Advance.

I tried a 36" long heatsink style laying horizontal on a 700R4......didnt work as well as I had hoped. Part of the problem is that the air flow underneath a car can be non existant in certain locations. Also, the exhaust under the car doesnt help with the ambient side of the heatsink. The heatsink coolers work well in vertical applications or, like some of the dirt cars, out in front of the car in the moving air. I tried a high volume boat bilge fan blowing down the heatsink....didnt make much difference. Now I have it in series with a Derale cooler with an integral fan.

John,
Let us know how that works. I don't see how it will get enough air.
Mine is cooled with a Derale in front of the radiator. However, I'm hoping to move it so I can install A/C. With a channeled, fenderless '34, I'm not sure where I can put it.Jack

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
