Why are you using a 4L60 "E" tranny if your racing it? That is a Electroinc computor controled valve body tranny.
What is it in?

Nothing wrong with a 460LE. Built properly, they handle the grunt fine. Programable for shift points and over-run are a bonus if a programmer is available.
What were the clearances for the shafts (end play) and clutch packs?
A lot of "non auto" shifts happen after a freshen up or rebuild. Line pressures are higher when manually shifting. When it automatic (D), it doesn't produce the same pressures and the valves don't see what they want and the computer is not going to respond to the load the band for 2nd and 4th and apply pressures for clutch pack stacking.
Clearances are critical as a starting point. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

True, but how many people actualy have the equipment, or the money to pay someone to program it till it's where you want it?
Plus the 4L60E in my '93 is a ONE! year only, they tell me a '94 may work, but '95s won't, they don't know why the books say they won't. They say I might need to use my old valve body to make it talk to the computor right. I have ask Dealers, rebuilders, and modifiers, and none can answer why.
I have no over drive, or 3rd. I have to rebuild the one I have to be sure. All I did was add some Lucas tranny addative to mine, no reason, someone told it would make it stronger & smoother, and it died about 2-3 weeks later!

I guess I'm spoiled over here.....I own the prgrammer that lets me put the parameters I want, rather, the vehicle needs.
Finding a person that will let you program yours or program it for a nominal fee is affordable and easy to find around here.
The drag racing scene is strong so guys with the programmers for 4L60e's and 4L80e's are fairly abundant.
I'd still like to know his build specs as far as clearances go.
Nice to have a baseline to start with. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?
