Think I have a rare t-10..any help decoding?

Hello all! I rebuild t5's on the side...I build one for a guy and he didn't have a t5 core to give back to me, but said that he had a t-10 off a 427 thunderbird that had been parted due to rust. I took it as a core, and after some research, I'm finding that perhaps this wasn't a too common trans?

can anyone help decode exactly what I have here? Does anyone have any links to decoding charts? I haven't been able to find any.

Wikepedia says only 120 427 tbirds were build over the mid to late 60's..any way to verify that this was from that exact car?

Here are the pics I have...I was given the t-10 trans, the bell housing, the hurst shifter, and a scatter shield.

the code on the tail is hard to read, but it says e7-3 which I believe is may 7 1963

Here are the pics I have

Rare - but not too unique. Cast iron is a definite Super T-10, probably a 2:42 low gear and used in big block Fords. These guys have a lot of rebuild parts - http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...rhaul_kit.html

You should be able to recover your core plus with the right buyer.

    Good Luck,

Looks like another overweight cast iron T-10..... To the right guy, if he needs that date code, might be worth something....

It is super duty ...... it is super heavy ...... it's probably worth something extra to a resto guy.

I too have one (super T10)..... prepped by Liberty - pro shifted from back in my drag race days & it's not worth re-building to change over to "normal" synchros. Plus shipping would kill someone!

On the other hand the early ANSON bellhousing would probably sell on the HAMB in about 1 day.

you have a t-10 used up until 1964(OLD BOLT PATTERN) IN 1965 FORD WENT TO A NEW BOLT PATTERN.the t-10 was used in 1965 as well. but suoer t-10s were not used until 1974 when gm stoped making the muncie, all super t-10 were alum. caases.had one in my 76 t/a. the ansen bell housing is rare and heavy.b/w made trans.auto and manual for everyone.packard studebaker amc etc.... the early t-10 in studebaker used the chevy bolt pattern the later ford (1963-64). BE CAREFUL THE INPUT SHAFTS ARE DIFFERENT.

American Motors, Ford and Chrysler used the "first design" Super T10 transmissions from 1965 to the early 1970s. I know for sure that some big block Fords and the AMX had cast iron super T10 transmissions as I serviced both and they were always "rusted up" on the case. Some had aluminum tail shafts.

The second design Super T10 was upgraded in a GM only version. The Super T10 was used in GM vehicles from 1975 to 1983 - Camaros, Trans Ams and Vettes..

It appears that you have an ANSEN Scattershield for an FE engine(1964 & earlier) and the ford version of an early(pre super t10) borg warner t-10 4 speed and by the looks of the length (I would guess 27" long) it is probably a 1963 Ford large car transmission. I would be interested in the scattershield or both if you decide to contact me.

The only interest would be from restorer. Any one who wants to go with regular 4 speed uses the toploader that came out in 64 because they are almost indestructible.
