3 speed standard
Hello all! Quick question for the forum. I'm installing a 3 speed standard in my 66 comet. It was an auto (MX) which didn't stand a chance behind a 450 HP Cleveland. I got everything figured out in the conversion except for th shifter. I want it on the floor as apposed to the "tree". I have used them cheap bolt on floor shifters before and found them unreliable when bangin' through the gears quickly, mostly the first to second shift tries to go into to both gears at the same time or misses the gear completly resulting in a potentially harmful rev-out when dumping into second. Thinking of building a one-off 2 stick design with first and reverse on one and second and third on the other. will need a reverse lock-out and some practice to make a quick first to second shift but it should be do-able. Crazy idea or has it been done before? Any direction appreciated.

Thanks streets, guess it wasn't such a strange idea. Should be an interesting thing to run. Might look kinda cool if my fabricating skills are up to it.

Was think'n of making the second one a little longer too, easier to grab when slippin off the first one. May have to grow another arm to run everything else though! (older nitrous system)

Dunno if that's what yer supposed to call it, thought those were hand shifters on Harley's; sounds appropriate though.

I built a 4 speed shifter outta an older 3 speed on a Saginaw 4 speed ..and a second single lever for reverse.....Rebushed everything and shortened the rods a little to make the swing shorter...No missing first to second...second to third isn't as fast but the truck doesn't need it so much anyways...The rear ratio is so high that it goes 50MPH in first and second is a gimme ..The tailgaters and morons are just tiny objects in the rear view mirror by then....I win. .....RE: 1965 Chevy C10 .slightly modified 250CID inline..Saginaw 4 Speed...Extremely high ratio differential.... ..idiot behind the wheel.....The cylinders have to be inline.!!!
