I paid $175 for an 88 Firebird V-8 trans (WC) at a wreaking yard. works perfect. heck you can't open yours up and inspect it for that.

Wow! There's a mustang specific salvage place near here that priced a takeout 5.0 engine, 5spd tranny, computer and harness for $1200.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

If I remember correctly, the Camaro and Firebird T-5's were not installed straight up like a normal transmission. They were rotated 15 degrees, so you have to make sure you're getting a T-5 that will have the shifter coming out in the correct place and angle.

Yup. however the "twist" is in the bellhousing. there are spline and other differences however.
I checked prices on carparts.com. man I did get a good deal on my last one. now the're 500-600

good deal on your tranny buy. the 6cyl. t-5 is the same ratio as v8 t-5 , and you can change the input shaft easy enough. i just pulled a t-5 outta an 87 turbo tbird that first gear is way too deep for me 3:95, compared to the 3:35 in my 5.0 now. while your changing the trans why not go ahead and get a new cable/quadrent/adjuster? i did mine and it was a breeze. as always just my 2 cents, nickyb.
