TH350 sat for a long time.
Hi guys,
Ok, the car has sat for awhile. No leaks until last night. When it's warm it drips pretty decent. Besides the pan gasket what seals/gaskets should be replaced? I want it to be tight & not worry.
Thanks,
Mack

Replace the pan gasket, rear seal, speedometer o-ring and the dipstick tube o-ring. Probably have to drop the trans and replace the front seal if it is leaking.Bug

The small seal in the selector shaft hole is also a suspect, especially if the trans is a little too full of fluid. Just be careful not to damage the shaft when digging the old seal out. The shaft is a lot more trouble to replace. Some of the holes are machined deep enough to take two seals, which can help.

There's an o-ring where the kick down cable enters as well.

If you go for the selector seal on the trans there is a tool to change it. sur beats digging with a pick or screwdriver.Charlie

Ok, here's a new one... Lol! Just replaced a weak, sagging homemade crossmember & now the car shakes like crazy.... The trans is higher than before. How do I go about getting back to balance?

Sounds like you need to set your pinion angle to match the tranny angle. If the tranny sits low in back say 2 degrees (angle finder on the tailshaft flange) then the pinion should point up the same 2 degrees.

Thanks Roger!
Checking it out, post what I find after using the angle finder.

Roger,
Thank you for the pinion angle explanation & I need to follow through on that. But, the prob seems to happen as soon as it's in gear, not rolling. The motor bogs down.
Recently replaced the tranny(th350) crossmember lifting the trans approx 2.5". The only thing that I can think of that changed was the shifter linkage & it does slip out if gear now. However, could the linkage be causing the "bog"? By not allowing the tranny to lock in gear?
What do you think?

Is the transmission loose on the engine? Had a guy bring me a vibrating car like yours, the bellhousing bolts were all loose.

Mack hasn't been on the forum since mid-July, and for some reason I totally missed his last post and sadly apparently everyone else did, too.
Mack,
It definitely sounds like you've got the linkage binding after lifting the tranny crossmember 2.5". If it's slipping out of gear you've got a problem, but I don't see that causing a "bog", but that may be terminology. Put the tranny in park, unhook your linkage, ensure that your shifter is locked in Park and adjust your linkage to fit freely, with no bind. With the engine off, check the opposite extreme for position, too, pulling the linkage with the shifter in your lowest forward gear, and ensuring that the tranny lever is in it's detent position.
Sorry for the lack of response, and hopefully you figured it out four months ago without us!Roger
