    Buzzing AOD

The AOD in my bronco is buzzing and I can feel it through the sfifter, its more noticable at idle and goes away with more RPMs. It works just fine and had no problems with it except for the buzzing, when I got the trans it was supposed to be rebuilt but when I dropped the pan after installing I noticed parts in the pan so I had it rebuilt again. It had wrong parts in it and thinking I should have junked it and got another trans since the builder said it had a bunch of metal that went through the trans, anyone have any ideas on whay its buzzing.

if its buzzing at idle--either pump or converter but most likely an event that will happen at a most awkard time or location--------and while your fixing it flush the cooler and lines

    Built twice, still not right?

Cut your losses, order a replacement ( and converter ) from Summit.

I'd vote for the pump, and like Jerry says if you didn't flush the lines and cooler that may be the source of the problems. I'm not sure who provides Summit with their tranny's, and they may be the best but I'd lean towards one of the specialty shops, like Monster if you're thinking of an outright change - AOD Transmission, Ford AOD Transmission, Ford Overdrive Transmission, AOD Monster Transmission

On the way home from work tonight I noticed it does not do it when cold, after I stopped at the bank it started buzzing when I started it back up but most of it went away when I got home. The reason I got this trans is I converted my bronco to 2wd since it had front differential issues and always wanted a 2wd version that was never made, when I was told it had a bunch of metal in it I did not use the torque convertor from this trans but used the convertor from the 4wd trans that was working great. The 4wd trans worked perfectly but I did not want the extra weight of the transfercase so I got a 2wd trans, even though the 4wd trans was good I did flush the lines and cooler so I think its just issues with this trans. The guy I had build the trans told me it had wrong parts in it and now wish he would have told me to find another trans to rebuild like he did with a C-4 I had him rebuild,I am going to do a fluid and filter change soon and see if it improves.

You might get lucky, but generally that "buzz" is heard on high mileage units getting long in the tooth.

I am going to look for another trans to put in when this one goes, all the shrapnel that went through it runined it so when it goes its going to the scrap yard.

I finally got around to changing the fluid and the buzz went away for about a week,I can play with the shifter and can get the noise to go away so I am thinking it has a bunch of debris in the valve body so I am going to grab one from the junkyard and see if the noise will go away for longer then a week.

Before you swap the valve body out since you will probably be adding new fluid add a can of Berryman Chem-Tool and put about 20 miles on it. Then use this and drain it: Transmission Problems
