    700R4 speedo hookup

Hey guys I have an 89 700R4 with an electronic vss (2 wire). I'm putting this in my non computer controlled 34 Ford tudor. I was thinking I had to pull the reluctor gear and go back to the old style gear set but there is some sort of canister on the end of the tail shaft that I would also need to remove and I'm not sure what that thing even is, much less can I remove it. So I've read on a couple of forums and I'm getting conflicting messages. One said the stock 2 wire setup one is a ground and one is the power. On another forum they said both are power and it is an alternating power that pulses thru both wires. Has anyone ever hooked up these wires to their speedo with any success? This is the sensor I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those wires were meant to go directly to the computer. I can't imagine that any stock speedo could interpret the signal. Not much help - just an opinion.

Well I just bought a pigtail so I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'm only out $10. Thanks for the input.

The 400 trans I put in my Nova had Electric speedo hook up. I removed the electronics and installed a drive gear for manual speedo. Worked great ...And did it with trans in car.

Just removed tail cover ,center punched gear for electronic pickup. Drilled it and it popped at the drill hole. Removed that gear. Put the new gear in freezer over night . New gear slid right on with no problems. Reassembled tail housing with new gears . Maybe this will help you
