    Richmond six speed transmission questions

     



    I've got a few questions regarding the Richmond manual six speed transmissions and I was wondering if anybody has some info they could share with me. I haven't much experience with the Richmond trannys at all or even building a hot rod, so please bare with me.

    Is it possible to bolt up a Richmond 6 speed to a Mopar Performance 426 Hemi crate motor?

    Would it be a simple affair or more complex, requiring some sort of adpater plate? If so where do get one?

    Does Richmond make a 6 speed that is designed for the Chysler block specifically? I think I saw somewhere on the net that before Richmond bought Doug Nash, there were a few manual transmssions designed for the Chysler engines. Is that right? Are they still being manufactored under the Richmond name?

    I have an interest in (maybe) someday building a '34 Ford 3 window coupe and I would love to use a Hemi / 6 speed transmission combination. In general, would that drop into a repo '34 frame with or without modifications? Have any members here done such a combination before? How did it work out? Can you give me a walk through?

    Thanks for any info you can provide me with! Some questions might be silly, but I'm new to this all so thanks for your understanding.

    According to Summit Racing.............
    Richmond does not make a 6 speed for Chrysler.

    They do however make a 4 + 1 Street 5 spd. for Chrylser,
    1 3/16" 18 spline.
    1st gear options: 3.27 - 4.06 - 4.41
    2nd gear: 2.13
    3rd gear: 1.57
    4th gear: 1.23
    5th gear: 1.1

    Meaning you can run an economy rear-end gear to save gas and still get performance in a lower geared rear-end.
    Richmond recommends a rear-end ratio between 2.73 - 3.36 for the 5 spd.

    The 4 + 1 Street is drilled for use with most popular 4 spd bellhousings and is the same length as most 4 spds.

    I'm running a Blown 355 / 425 hp SBC, Richmond 4 + 1 Street 5 spd,
    Hydraulic Center- Force Clutch,
    1957 Chrysler 8 3/4 Posi Sure-Grip - 3.33 rear-end with Bear Racing Axles.

    Thank you for the reply! It's a shame Richmond doesn't offer a bellhousing and a correctly splined shaft to bolt up to a Mopar. Guess the Chebby guys have the largest support! So much for a 6 speed Hemi combo, huh? Any other 6 speed transmissions out there that might work and take the power? Termec?

    How about a 4 speed automatic or a 3 speed with overdrive for a small block mopar? Does anyone have any info?
