700R4 - 2WD vs 4WD trans differences
I have a 700R4 from an 84 camaro. I have a jeep that has had a 305/700R4 with transfer case from an S10 put in it. Are the trans the same except for the tailhousing/shaft? (can the 2wd one be converted for use in the 4WD application?)
TIA

as long as you have the v 8 bell and you change the output shaft it will work however it might shift different because of the calibration in the vavlebody for the camaro to the jeep ,. either way it will work. another concern is you need to address what spline input shaft you have ,if you plan on reusing the converter from the jeep . your camaro trans is a 84 so it should be a non aux. 27 spline. unit. the late 85 up are 30 spline so it may not work depending on what year it is. what year is the other unit?
when you get the unit in you will also have to get lockup to work untill i know what year the other unit is or how you have it run know i cant help you with that yet."IT'S 106 MILES TO CHICAGO , WE GOT A FULL TANK OF GAS , HALF A PACK OF CIGARETTES, ITS DARK, AND WERE WEARING SUNGLASSES"

I won't take delivery of the Jeep until thurs or friday, and it may be sunday before i can look it over real well. It has a blown 305 (as in broken , not supercharged ). I have a good 305 in the camaro, and the trans we pulled out last summer - it has issues with fluid leakage at teh pan. I have no clue on the running gear of the Jeep. The bolt on parts exceed teh purchase price of the vehicle, and all i know it needs are 4 tires (31x10.50x15) and the front driveshaft is bent (u joint failure and it fell out )
I am hoping it has at least a posi rear end. It is a one owner (well, one family) vehicle if that has any value .Chris
