    Tranny cooler question

I have a trans flow trans cooler and a 700R4. All the directions i have read say to run the trans lines through the rad first, then to the aux cooler, or use the aux cooler alone.

Does it matter that much if the cooler is before or after the rad's built in cooler?

You want to take the trans up to temp as quick as possible thus, put the cooler after the built in rad cooler.....

    Random thoughts.

    From TCI:
Should I use an external transmission cooler in conjunction with the oil cooler supplied in the radiator?

Answer: Unless operating in an environment where the outside temperature is below 0°F, you should cap off the radiator cooler line openings and run your cooler lines directly to a new cooler mounted in front of the radiator. This allows the transmission to have its own cooling system and doesn't allow the engine water temperature to heat the fluid.
I've always believed that the trans cooler should be after the radiator. If the engine coolant gets too hot, and heats up the trans fluid (remember, the radiator will heat OR cool the fluid), the aux cooler is in place to bring it back down. If you run it through the aux first, and bring the temp down somewhat, a hot radiator is going to add heat.

BTW< Tech, If the fluid is too cold, it is too viscous vice not viscous enough. Higher viscosity = thicker.

the directions say to run it alone or after the rad cooler.

i would think before the rad cooler makes sense..for several reasons. (the only reason NOT to is have the aux cooler be cooler itself, but since it can run alone that should not be the reason.)

assuming that the aux cooler is cooler than the rad (makes sense it should be) then running the trans fluid through it last would make is cooler than stock, cooler by an unknown amount.

If you are trying to keep everything cool, rad too, then running it to the aux cooler first will dump the heat from the trans fluid (into the air stream and into the rad maybe?) and when it comes out of the rad cooler it will be a somewhat predictable 195 degrees.

My trans gets hot on hills, as does the engine. I am trying to add some overall additional cooling, and perhaps some low speed cooling to thee trans as well

Mounting - it says to essentially zip tie it to thru the rad - I have a hard riding 4x4 - will this be strong enough or will i tear the tubes and fins out of my rad?
