Tranny won't shift...
Hi Folks,
I got a new problem here: My TH700-R4 won't shift. It runs good in reverse and first gear, but it doesn't shift up into second, third or overdrive. It just stays in first. I've just changed the filter and the fuel is at the correct level. The converter engages fully and doesn't slip, so I don't think it's that. What can it be? The tranny was overhauled six years ago, but was only run for about 5.000 mls, so it should be as good as new.
???????????????????????Harharhar...

the only tjing that come to mind is a diconnected vacuum line from the block to the tranny like on a TH350 or a TH400. look for the line from just in front of your distributar eunnimg to the module on the tranny i recall that they are usaully on the back on the passenger side of the tranny unless chev changed somthing on the bugger. hope i helped somewhatWHEN I GO AND THE DEVIL WANTS HIS DUE!!!! I'M GONNA JUST SAY THIS

Another possibility. Make sure the cooling lines to the radiator arent plugged. If they are, the tranny wont built the nessicary pressure to shift.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

Having the same problem with my 700R4. I pulled the governer and that got my second second gear back. It shifts into 3rd. but slips/spins and no power. It also seems like it stays engaged in netrual. Once I pulled the govener it was easy to see it was bad. The guy at the tranmission parts place told me that I might have a stuck throttle body valve also, but I'm waiting on a friend who works on 700R4's to come by and drive it and see what he thinks before doing anything else.

Hi fpayne55,
Would be nice to hear what's wrong. I can't do much work with the tranny in the vehicle, and I think I'll check the filter and cooling lines as well, just to make sure nothing is blocked.
One more question: What ATF is better: Dexron IID or Dexron III? In my book it says you can use either, now I want to know what's mostly used. THX!Harharhar...
