automatic to 6speed conversion?
Ok heres the story. Im only 16 and i found a z28 for a hell of a deal. I bought it ever though it was an automatic. I personally think automatics are the skum of the earth. I was lookin around and i found a tranny that was a 6speed off a 94 trans am. If the conversion is possible in the 1st place thats what i would be raplacing it with. Is it possible to convert it to an 6-speed and if it is what all do i need for it and how much will it cost.

Yeah it's possible, you'll need the parts like clutch master and pedal and such but camaro's like that were offered with the 6spd. as long as the z28 has the mount for the pedal, that part shouldn't be to owfal hard. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Not to sound like an ass but do you go to my school? I always here people from school bag on a sweet looking hot rod or car just because it's not a manual and they say it's crappy and slow because of it. Sorry to tell ya but I know lots of people and driven some cars with sticks and auto and the auto's are much better. Go to the drag strip and I bet you more than half of the top fastest cars out there are automatics. Unless you get to the really fast ones where thet just got drive and reverse, heh.
Don't think automatics are crappy, have someone that knows their stuff build you a good automatic and you probably won't wan't to go back, plus sticks are a pain in the ass anyways to sit in traffic or stop and go... Just my 2 cents but ay it's your car so do what ya wan't.www.streamlineautocare.com
If you wan't something done right, then you have to do it yourself!

68Chevelle396,
Since you did not specify what year your Z28 is, may I offer my opinion?
If it is later than a mid 1970's car (there was a body/chassis change in that era, somewhere), and even if it is an earlier one, for all intents and purposes, stick with the "juicer", or go find a different car, one with a clutch and a stick from the factory. The concept is not an impossible one, but the hassles of the conversion will far outweigh the benefits; if there are any, in true fact.
This is a purely practical opinion, from an old "greybeard". I do understand the thrill of "rowing the stick", and the rush of the positive hook-up, and still do it myself, from time-to-time. But, in a daily driver, and a car already designed, engineered, and built as a "self - shifter", it is far more astute to use what is there already, and add to it (read: improve it) with a performance rebuild, or modification, than to try to re-engineer/re-manufacture it to be something else.

The auto he has now is mediocar at best, the 6spd is a lot better. Automatics arn't any faster than manuals really, there just easier and better for crusing comforts but manual also gets better mpg.
