Which 700R4???
I have 2 good, 700R4 transmissions sitting in my garage. 1 trans is out of a Z28 w/50,000 miles and the other I am told, is out of a full size van. Which one should I install in my fullsize GMC 3/4 ton pickup that has a 300hp 350 crate motor?
I tow a car trailer at times, but I need the OD when I
I'm not towing.
Is there anyway to tell which one has more clutches in it , just by looking at the numbers on the case?

Gee, no responses yet. I don't know the answer for you but you could call "fearthemonster" at
http://www.fearthemonster.com/transmissions/
and pretend you want to buy a rebuilt transmission and ask for the Tech guy and ask him the question. I found his comments very helpful and I might say that I got the impression from three different vendors of rebuilt 700R4 transmission that a stock rebuild will not hold up under 300 H.P. very long and yet what about the new corvettes? Anyway there is some question as to whether there needs to be some sort of improvement for 300 H.P. or more so you could ask the Tech guy about that. Maybe some of the early 700R4 trans are weaker than the later ones but I do not know which are the good years. If you have an early one that is a good question to ask as well.

If the van had a V6 it may be short a couple of clutches. But if it came out of one with a V8 you should be good to go.
The metric bolt pattern housings from S10s and Cameros were "light duty" and did not have the same number of clutches that were used in the V8 models. But, to my knowledge, they are only uesd behind Olds/Buick 215s and Northstars. An Old California Rodder

Yeah, that's right and to be expected sometimes, but the story behind this engine lead me to believe it was good and I bought it from someone that I have known for years. The transmission was no...
