Before I post my Bucket up to Dave Severson to wait it's turn at the upholstery shop can Recovery Room give us non professional rod builders some ideas on how to prepare a fibreglass body ready to aid an upholsterer to accomplish that special excellent finish. Eg what wooden frame placing in the body helps or hinders the finished job? What to do so that the upholstery doesn't have self tapping screws holding the trim in place? Would it help if the owner/builder fabricated the seat base/frame so that the trimmer only has to fit the springs etc before covering? And finally can I just say,WOW,that 32 Roadster is absolutely gorgeous. That upholstery finishers that car brilliantly. One more question please.... Do you have a free hand on what the finish will be after discussing with the client what their expectations are???

Hi Guys, Just been reading some other threads here on doing upholstery and in the above post from me, I have asked for advice from Recovery Room. I don't want to upset anybody on this site, so I would like to open up those questions to any upholsterer as although I will be shopping out my upholstery shop to an expert, I would like to make their job on my car easier by having the starting point in the body right. Thanks Whiplash.

I just saw your post today,The best advice i can give you is to get with your interior guy and ask what they want,Wiring is a big factor,It needs to be organized and out of the way.As for the rest of it,We build all our own panels to what we are going to do for the interior design. You need to talk everything over with your guy so you get the panels the way he want's.And yes most people that bring me a car give us a" free hand" in the design and build.I go over a lot of questions and needs from the owner or builder to see what they want and try and make sure they get what they want,Then I will lay out the designs to make it work with the car.The interior that I put in the 32 above works with the 60's show car style they were looking for.Last edited by RECOVERY ROOM; 03-26-2010 at 08:29 AM.

Thanks Recovery Room for your advice, much appreciated. My wiring is done but with me deciding on having opening doors, it is all pulled up out of the way. I also wondering with me steeling out the car what can I do to aid the trimmer with how the panels are to be fixed to the car as I don't want the exposed screw head look. I have approached the trimmer I want to do my car, but that was way back when the car was still in it's early constuction stage, so I will take your advice, and get him to come and have a look at the car now and take his advice on where we are at.

RECOVERY ROOM,
The last picture you posted.
Is that the car that Troy built, and was later stolen? If not it looks pretty close, at least the colors are like the one he did. Anyway you really do nice work.
